View Full Version : [Pivot] Blur

People have been watching Flash animation's from people like Greg Anim's with cool blur effects and people have wondered...
"Man, that's impossible in Pivot... maybe I should just start learning Flash."
FORGET THAT! I found a way to actually put a Blur effect in Pivot, very simple. Just make sure you got common sense.
NOTE: I will provide some images, but I won't take a picture of every thing I do!
Tools:
Photoshop (Any version of Photoshop or get Irfanview)
Pivot 3
And some hard drive space
STEP 1: Okay first we will be using one of your animation's that you've completed but haven't done the effects yet. (MAKE SURE YOUR ANIMATION HAS NO EFFECTS IN IT OTHERWISE IT'LL MESS EVERYTHING UP!)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/sschibi/blur1copy.jpg
STEP 2: Now click File>Save Animation and don't save it yet! Click below where you type the filename and click "Seperate Images"!
STEP 3: Your animation will now be divided into however frames you have, it can take a while if you made a movie or something.
STEP 4: Now open up your program to MOTION BLUR your images with. In this case I'm using Photoshop CS2.
STEP 5: Open up the images you want to blur. HINT: I'd recommend bluring the images where the first stick's punch is on the way to hitting the second stick.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/sschibi/blur2copy.jpg
STEP 6: Now for the blur. Go click on Filters>Blur>Motion Blur.
STEP 7: You should now adjust the angle to 0°. I'm going to put my blur distance on 25 Pixels. I don't really think you should follow this exactly but just try and fiddle around with it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/sschibi/blur3copy.jpg
STEP 8: Now save it. No don't save as, just save it!
STEP 9: Go back to your Pivot animation and go to the frame that you edited. Now load in the background and delete your sticks out of that frame. (The floor you don't need to delete.)
I'll label the frame I just blurred.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/sschibi/blur4copy.jpg
STEP 10: NOW add your effects! When you're all done, you should have an example like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/sschibi/kill.gif
I made this short one with the effects that shows the basic effect. Fiddle around with this and make sure it's good.

the blur effect in ur animation isnt in the right place, you put it when he is punching, not before, but otherwise great tut :)
There is a much simpler way to do that, that doesn't require anything but Pivot, and produces a similar effect.
But still, it's ok if you wanna get all fancy.

Not bad but, you still need photoshop or gimp to do it.
The GIMP is free, and has the features Photoshop has... You just have to find them...
SSChiba
08-03-2006, 02:04 PM
As long as you find a program that has MOTION Blur then whatever. I heard that Irfanview also has Motion Blur.
EDIT: And it's free.

True.. I use GIMP but it's hard to find all of the features. Yet you can't complain about a free program. It's just as good as photoshop when/if you can get used to it.

I use Beneton Movie Gif for my anis. It's more like Windows movie maker than Photoshop, but the blur effect is pretty much the same. Its an easier format because you can import whole animations instead of each frame.

well ... im a noob n i know that this question z kinda stupid but i wanna know how u edit the frames after ur finished wit the wole anim. .... plz ... :Embarrassed:
You open the animation, use the bar at the top to select the frame you want, change stuff, and then click "next frame" to save the changes.
Godhand
03-07-2010, 12:29 PM
tnx alot ... that rly helped ... cuz i used to think that this move will creat another frame ....
but i wanna ask another question ... after u do the blur thing in photoshop ... how do u put that frame or picture back to ur animation ...?
tnx again :D
Add the image as the background for that frame and delete everything else in the frame. You can only do it in pivot 3.
Godhand
03-07-2010, 03:08 PM
ok ... tnx alot ur the best ...
u know im a noob n i was wonderin after i saw the flash movies n they r really somethin .... should i learn flash or keep the pivot ? ..
im askin cuz ur a pro ... tnx :D
If you want to animate seriously you'll need flash, but pivot's not a bad place to learn the basics.
Godhand
03-08-2010, 01:29 AM
well .. im learnin the basics wit pivot ... but i think im gonna get flash soon n start animatin' wit it ....
tnx ... where can i see ur clips ? n do u just use pivot ?

03-08-2010, 01:52 AM
I'd recommend starting with easytoon to be honest. It doesn't rely on predetermined rigged characters and actually lets you animate to your own discretion.
Godhand
03-09-2010, 04:03 AM
u mean to start wit easytoon first then flash ... ??? or never use flash ??
and if u kno where to get free flash cs4 .. plz tell me
