Ok, I posted this ages ago, when Hax had the olny decent easytoon tutorial, this is it as it was then, it's not for the new version so some tools aren't there but most are. Enjoy.

Introduction

This tutorial is for newbie Eztooners who have a basic understanding of how to use eztoon. If you have just started using eztoon you should make a few animations before reading this. This is not a tutorial giving animating techniques: it is tutorial to help deepen you understanding of eztoon.

Duration

The 'Duration tool' looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontuthighlightduration.bmp

What is it? This is used to change how long the frame lasts. The default is 0. When it is change to 100 the frame lasts 2 seconds regardless of framerate.

When should I use it? When something is there for a long time and there is no movement eg. 'End' This stops you from having to copy the same frame over and over which increases the file size more than one frame.

Is it useful? Yes.

Onion Skin buttons

They look like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontuthighlightonionskin.bmp

What is it? Turns onion skinning on and off. The left one turns the previous frame onion skin off the right one turns the next frame onion skin off. Press again to turn back on.

When should I use it? Don't. There's no reason to turn it off.

Is it useful? No.

Zoom

The zoom buttons look like this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontuthighlightzoom.bmp

What is it? It changes how much you have zoomed in. The default is 2.

When should I use it? To draw small things. Also when you view your animation zoom out to 1. Doing so will give you an accurate view of you animation.

Is it useful? Yes

Black to white button

The ‘Black to white’ button looks like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontuthighlightblacktowhite.bmp

What is it? Basically it changes pen to eraser and eraser to pen.

When should I use it? When there’s a black frame and a white stick/object. It easier than adjusting the size of the pen

Is it useful? Yes

Copy image mask button

The ‘copy image mask’ button looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontuthighlightcopylastframe.bmp

What is it? It copy’s the previous frame onto the current frame

When should I use it? Use it for animation with backgrounds.

Is it useful? Yes (only use when necessary)

Segment range buttons

They look like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontuthighlightselection.bmp

What is it? If you have a long animation and you want to view a specific part of it you type it the frame number e.g. frame20 to frame 80

When should I use it? When viewing a section of a long animation

Is it useful? Yes

The selection buttons

When I say selection buttons I mean these: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutbar4.bmp

What is it? Once you select a piece of the image you can edit it. The four buttons each edit your selection differently. I will refer to them by number, 1 on the left and 4 on the right.

selection button 1

What is it? Lets you scale the selection any way you want.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutegbeforechange.gif
Before

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/ezttontutegafterchange1.gif
after

When should I use it? when scaling simple images.

Is it useful? it’s OK

selection button 2

What is it? lets you change the size of the selection but keeps it to scale.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutegbeforechange.gif
Before

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutafterchange2.bmp
after

When should I use it? when scaling images

Is it useful? it’s OK

selection button 3

What is it? Lets you rotate the selection. But it distorts the image in the process.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutegbeforechange.gif
Before

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/ezttoontutegafterchange3nofix.gif
after

It’s a good idea to fix the image a bit because it looks crap otherwise.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/ezttoontutegafterchange3withfix.gif
after rotating and fixing.

When should I use it? For rotating simple objects

Is it useful? Only when used correctly and in moderation.

selection button 3

What is it? The box can be changed into a shape using the mouse. The image will be made to fit into that shape. It is distorted in the process.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutegbeforechange.gif
Before

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutegafterchange4.gif

When should I use it? For reflections or shadows.

Is it useful? At certain times, yes.

Importing an Eztoon

What is it? The action of putting another eztoon file into the current one.

When should I use it? When you want a loop for a while then the animation continues.

Is it useful? Yes

To import an eztoon first make the eztoon you want to import

Then go to file, import eztoon http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/Jonny_g/eztoontutimporteztoon.bmp

Select the file you want to import then click OK.

Your import file will now of appeared from the frame you were at when you started the process.

This concludes the tutorial I hope now with some practice you will be able to use eztoon effectively.

Is the duration the frame rate. I can't seem to speed up my animations.

LN3uq
12-02-2007, 07:14 PM
Not really, duration makes certain frames last for a longer time, but it's not really the frame rate.
To make your animation faster, go to Animation Properties, under View, and change it to something like 7, that's the speed I use at least. I'm not sure what the number actually represents, but try using different ones.

You're pressing the insert new frame button, I imagine. The problem is that when you press that, it inserts a new frame before your current one, so your animation ends up being in reverse. Instead, press the right arrow key (or if that doesn't work ctrl+right arrow) to make a new frame after your current one.

Unfortunately, nothing can be done to save the animations you've already made, other than copying each frame and pasting it into it's new location.
