Alright, yes the forum updates were a prank and I'm sure no one liked them or thought they were funny in anyway, but now that it is over I need to ask you what you liked about the changes because I think there were some good in the mass of bad.
As it is currently the forum looks like this:
General:
-Main
-General Help
-Debate Forum
-Forum News
-Introduce Yourself
-Stickpage Animations & Games
Show Off:
-Community Projects
-Community Animations
-Community Artwork
-Animation Attack
and the rest is the same.
I wanted to know what you thought about the additions and combining of some of the forums. I'm not going to keep the changes if everyone is against them, though I think the Forum News and Introduction threads are useful.

Introduce yourself is pointless, I like the way it was in the main.

News is good, introduction might work, see how it runs, combining the animation forums might lead to twats not putting work in the right place as they don't look for the right section in subforums.
Everything else is fine.

You can't make a thread in the main "Community Animations" so it forces you to click on a sub forum. I think I solved that concern.
The introduce yourself I think will work because post count is turned off so there is no point for older members or newer ones to try to up post count by greeting every single member. The forum will also eliminate the "Hi I'm New" in main that occurs from time to time.

Having a section for introducing yourself wasn't all that bad. It gives more room for us to welcome/warn the member about stickpage. It also lets them say more about themselves. I'd say keep the introduction as a section.

Fair enough, that might work indeed.

The main opinions I need are from the animators who may or may not like the combination of the forums.

In my forum I didn't make a pivot section.
Everyone loved that.
But seriously the animations section of the forum is pretty much just fine. Unless you want to find some way to make Easytoon more active.
IMO we just need a seperate Flash section. It is critical that flashers don't have to wade through pivot junk.

Your not having to wade through pivot junk because they are in sub forums... I'm not following your thoughts.
Make sure you put Introduce yourself in the top of the thread.
So newbies know where to start.
If i were new to the website I'd go there, so you might want to create some "Rule thread" and FAQ around that forum.

No, it should be.

Alright feel free to discuss the order but I was just ordering them from length of words in the title...

Oops didn't notice the sub forums, I only ever use the "New Posts" button anyway.

On the temporary forum we had, there was a way that you could click on the person's avatar, and you could send them an instant message on the forum. Sort of like Private Messaging but instant. A box in the top right corner popped up when you got a message.
You should totally add that to stickpage.
That widget isn't available to vbulletin i think.

It would make reporting a lot easier.
Also I wouldn't want to add somebody's msn to tell them about somebody's thread or an awesome joke somebody made, or etc.

That's not needed at all. If you're too lazy to pm or read a pm you should **** off.

Introduce yourself is like The Official Welcome Thread. It's pointless.

Except for the obvious fact that its less hidden and doesn't add post counts...The same? No.

Hey Paperclip, might I suggest that you put "Forum News" before Main?
This is the order that makes the most sense to me:
Introduce yourself
Forum News
General Help
Stick Page Animations & Games
Main
Debate section.
I think we should give use to the "help facilities" first, rather than entertainment.

God it just looks weird... I'm OCD in that manor.
Is there any name we can assign to "Main" to make it longer? Lol

Well General would mix us up with General Help. And Community would mix us up with the ones in the Show-Off Area.
Discussion?
Main could be:
Unrelated to the Forum events.
Or just Unrelated Events.
Thoughts on what Main could be called:
Main Street, Downtown Stickpage
The Water Cooler
The Community Café
General Discussion
The Break Room
Coffee Corner

General Discussion is fine, but put it on top. I'm way too accustomed to clicking on the top section.
I like Introduce Yourself on top and Announcements next, that's great. Not sure whether Help and Discussion should be switched, but other than that everything is great.

I'm a little stubborn. I want art to be Art and general discussion to be Main.
But actually, how it is is fine. The help and discussion switch might work.
I'm too fat to click twice to arrive at the flash section.

Weren't we considering a miscellaneous show off section for games and music? What better time to try that idea out than now?
For the Main name change, I like reals idea about 'Cafe'

"Original Music"
"Original Games"
or something of the sort
"Have original media that isn't related to animation? Post it here!"
something something music
something something games

You could do like what you did with the animation forums. A section in Show-off called Miscellaneous with two subsections inside: "Games" and "Original Music". That would move games out of Community Animations which makes sense because games aren't really animations.

One could change the Film forum's name too. Less bots = happier mods.
Right now I'm too tired to get any ideas. Will come back with name suggestions.

How about "TV & Cinema"?

That could work. "Discuss the cinematic adventures here ..."

Also, I'm a little baffled right now. Where's the art section?

Community Artwork. Right under Community Animations. And right above Commun-

i liked the idea of people having to use the portal, but only if the portal gets fixed
Flood
07-16-2009, 04:01 PM
I don't, because then new people in flash would need to post tests and such to get constructive criticism or we'd end up with a bunch of creative animations, but horribly animated. Like Newgrounds.
Chunky
07-16-2009, 04:10 PM
then don't post tests and put more effort in to making full animations, and some form of competition between peoples everyday flashes would be healthy

True that.
I believe we should update the front page ALOT more. Thats been the same animation of the month and week or w/e for YEARS! We gotta update that to give animators motivation to feel like theyre achieving something .
" I wanna be on the SPP front page so I can feel cool"

Kinda look at FA but keep the layout of ours.

No one cares about the portal so it doesn't really matter. That's like comparing McDonald's hamburgers to Burger King's hamburgers based on the pickles.
